Conundrum Hot Springs is a geothermal spring in a remote section of the Maroon Bells–Snowmass Wilderness in Colorado’s Rocky Mountains, within White River National Forest. Known for its unusually high elevation and dramatic alpine surroundings, it lies above tree line among 14,000-foot peaks, avalanche chutes, and waterfalls. Reached by an 8.5-mile hike that climbs about 2,500 feet to 11,207 feet, the site has a distinctly backcountry character. Mineral water emerges at about 122 degrees Fahrenheit and cools into soaking pools, including a main pool around 98 degrees. Strict rules on camping, dogs, and waste address sanitation problems that have threatened water quality.
