Chatfield Hollow State Park in Killingworth, Connecticut, combines a recreation area around Schreeder Pond with wooded trails, rocky ledges, and preserved historic features beside Cockaponset State Forest. Developed in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps, it gained Schreeder Pond in 1934, Oak Lodge in 1937, and state park status in 1949; Oak Lodge was later listed on the National Register of Historic Places and restored. The site also preserves much older Indigenous history, with evidence of use from Paleo-Indian times through the Final Woodland period, including shelters now called the Indian Caves. Its glacial valley landscape supports hiking, swimming, fishing, biking, and climbing.
