The Wheat House is a tall wood-framed building that served as both a granary and a place to store farm equipment. Like the garage, it faces the main house and has ornamental features, especially a balcony above the front door. The balcony also had a practical use, as mule-drawn wagons were backed beneath it so workers could hoist sacks of grain into the loft. Large wooden bins in the loft held the grain, while a very steep flight of stairs beside the main door on the ground floor led upward into that space. Wooden chutes on the north wall carried grain back down for bagging. Sliding doors opened to sheds on the sides and rear, where wagons, buggies, and gear were stored. Like the commissary, the building was moved to its present location when Ethridge Road was realigned and paved in the 1950s.
