Chilton Woods State Forest is a 397-acre protected working forest on Virginia’s Northern Neck near Warsaw, managed by the Virginia Department of Forestry for conservation, timber production, wildlife habitat, and public access. The land entered state control in July 2000 through a transfer by Catherine B. Chilton, continuing a long family connection shaped by her husband’s will that it ultimately pass to the Commonwealth. Its landscape includes Lancaster Creek and the Corrotoman River, with loblolly pine, mixed pine and hardwood forest, and understory plants such as showy orchis and pink lady’s slipper. Hiking, horseback riding, birdwatching, and limited hunting are allowed, while camping and motorized vehicles are prohibited.
