Organized January 14, 1843, as Newton's Creek Church with fifteen charter members, this congregation was first led by Elder Henry Richardson, who served as pastor from 1843 to 1846. It took its present name in 1847 after the site was chosen for its first house of worship. Another church was built in 1853 and a third in 1870. A cemetery was established about 1895, and the present building was dedicated August 20, 1967.
