About 1756 Peter Westervelt built a small house on land owned by his wife, Catlyntje Haring, and it was enlarged in 1785. During the Revolutionary War the farm was raided. The property later passed to their son Henry and then to his son Aaron, a Freeholder and State Assemblyman. Purchased in 1860, the house received a north-side addition in the Italianate style, and further alterations were made over the years. A later owner was William W. Livengood, Mayor of Hillsdale in 1930.
