Mississippi Mills was the site of cotton and woolen mills established in 1866 by J. M. Wesson. The mills burned in 1873, then were rebuilt, expanded, and operated by Col. Ed. Richardson and Capt. Wm. Oliver with 2,000 employees. They closed in 1910 and were dismantled in 1919.
