Concord Baptist Church is the oldest institution in Hunt County. It was organized in 1844 by Rev. Ben Watson under a tree near Shady Grove, and its first building was erected near that spot. After several moves, the congregation settled on this site in 1885. Concord helped organize the Texas Baptist Convention in 1848. This granite shaft was donated by Nannie A. Swann Girdner and erected in 1967.
