Percha Dam State Park is a small New Mexico park on the Rio Grande, about 21 miles south of Truth or Consequences. Encompassing 80 acres around Percha Dam, it centers on a low diversion structure whose reservoir resembles a broad, slow-moving reach of river rather than a large lake. The area is valued for fishing, rafting, kayaking, and bird watching, especially during spring and autumn migrations. Less than 2 miles below Caballo Dam, Percha Dam serves both recreation and agriculture by slightly raising the river so irrigation water can be sent to chile pepper fields farther downstream.
