Professor Albert Terry Wright was born in Hanover County, Virginia. Early in his career, he taught in the black schools of Richmond, Virginia. In 1901, he began teaching in Lancaster County, Virginia. Between 1905 and 1910, he built the Lancaster County Training School in White Stone. In 1921 Wright became the principal of the county’s first high school for blacks. The school was constructed with funds raised by black residents in his honor and was later named The A. T. Wright High School. The A.T. Wright High School served blacks until 1959, when the county opened Brookvale High School. Wright lived from 1873 to 1944.
