Wyalusing State Park occupies bluffs above the meeting of the Mississippi and Wisconsin rivers near Prairie du Chien, combining striking scenery with deep cultural and natural significance. Its name reflects Munsee-Delaware settlement in the 19th century, and its heights preserve prehistoric Native American mounds. Chosen early in Wisconsin’s park movement, it became the state’s fourth park in 1917 and took its present name in 1937. In Wisconsin’s unglaciated Driftless Area, the park includes nationally recognized forest and archaeological sites, extensive trails, bird habitat, campgrounds, an astronomy center, and the nation’s only monument dedicated to the extinct passenger pigeon.
