USS Mars AFS-1 was commissioned on 21 December 1963 and decommissioned on 1 February 1993. A combat stores ship, she was manned by 430 officers and enlisted personnel. She was the first ship to use the UH-460 Sea Knight helicopter for faster record-setting replenishments of the US Naval Seventh Fleet during the Vietnam War. She was named for Mars, Pennsylvania, and on 19 April 2006 her bell was dedicated to all who served aboard her and presented to the citizens of Mars, Pennsylvania.
