Louisiana troops here included Breckinridge’s Division with Washington Artillery 5th Company under Captain C.H. Slocomb; Adams’ Brigade under Brigadier General D.W. Adams with the 13th and 20th Infantry under Colonel Augustus Reichard, the 16th and 25th Infantry under Colonel D. Gober, the 19th Infantry under Colonel Wesley P. Winans, and the 14th Battalion Sharpshooters under Major J.E. Austin; French’s Division with Fenner’s Battery under Captain C.E. Fenner and Maxey’s Brigade; Loring’s Division with Buford’s Brigade and the 12th Infantry under Colonel Thomas M. Scott and Pointe Coupee Artillery under Captain A. Bouanchaud; Walker’s Division with Wilson’s Brigade and the Fourth Battalion under Lieutenant Colonel J. McEnery; the Cavalry Division First Brigade with the Independent Company under Lieutenant Nathaniel M. Martin and Captain Junius Y. Webb; and the Reserve Artillery with Durrive’s Battery under Captain Edward Durrive, Jr. The 12th Infantry was engaged at Champion’s Hill on May 16, 1863, where 5 were killed, 34 wounded, and 39 total casualties were sustained.
