Blackjack Mountain is a ridge-like mountain in the far southwestern corner of Carroll County, Georgia, on the Georgia-Alabama border and along the Heard County line near Ephesus. Rising to 1,545 feet, it is the highest point in Georgia south of Interstate 20, though it is known more as a long north-south ridge than a sharp peak. Named for the blackjack oak, it is associated in local tradition with Native American travel and possible sacred use. Recognized as a high conservation priority in the early 2000s, the mountain was protected in 2005, preserving more than 312 acres of forest, lakes, wetlands, tributaries, and wildlife habitat.
