Pike State Forest in southern Ohio spans 12,084 acres across western Pike County and eastern Highland County. Ohio began acquiring the land in 1924 to restore woodland heavily damaged by fire and other human disturbance, and much of the recovery work in the 1930s was carried out by the Civilian Conservation Corps with the Division of Forestry. Today the forest combines landscape protection with seasonal public use. It offers 33 miles of hiking and horse trails, 10 miles of routes for motorcycles and all-terrain vehicles, seasonal hunting and fishing, and Anderson Lake as a popular fishing area.
