Mount Independence is a 9,950-foot peak in Idaho’s Albion Mountains within Sawtooth National Forest. The range’s second highest mountain, it rises about 1 mile northwest of Cache Peak, with the Independence Lakes in the basin to its east. It is especially important for its ecology: the mountain supports one of the three known populations of Cymopterus davisii, a plant found only in the Albion Mountains. The plants on Mount Independence are considered part of a single shared population with those near Cache Peak.
