T. Bailey Brown of Company B, 2nd West Virginia Volunteer Infantry, under Capt. Geo R. Latham, was the first Union soldier killed in the Civil War at Fetterman, West Virginia, on May 22, 1861, when Daniel Knight of Company A, 25th Virginia, C.S.A., under Capt. John A. Robinson, killed him. Brown was born May 15, 1829, and died May 22, 1861.
