First known as Lee's Encampment after Major H.A.G. Lee established a troop camp there in 1844, Meacham took its present name from the famous Mountain House operated there by A.B. and Harvey Meacham. In later years, the railroad eating house The Log Cabin became nationally known under the supervision of Grandma Munra, a well-known pioneer figure. On July 3, 1923, Meacham served as the capitol of the United States for a day when President Warren G. Harding stopped there and took part in exercises commemorating the eightieth anniversary of the covered wagon migration of 1843.
