Navajo Bridge consists of two steel spandrel arch bridges spanning the Colorado River at Marble Canyon near Lees Ferry in northern Arizona. The original bridge, built from 1927 to 1929 after the old Lees Ferry crossing proved inadequate for rising automobile traffic, became a crucial link between Arizona and Utah and later was renamed Navajo Bridge. Its narrow roadway eventually could not meet modern traffic needs, so a second parallel span was completed in 1995 to carry U.S. Route 89A, while the older bridge was preserved for pedestrians and equestrians. Together they are among the nation’s highest bridges and remain important for transportation, engineering history, and access to the Arizona Strip.
