The Chehalis Western Trail is a 22-mile shared-use path in Thurston County, Washington, created from the former Chehalis Western Railroad corridor, once used for timber hauling for about 60 years. Officially opened on September 27, 1998, it grew through paving, linking projects, and the long-running Bridging the Gap effort, completed in 2014, which added grade-separated crossings and made the route more seamless. Now the region’s longest shared-use path, it is notably flat and accessible for much of its length, passing prairies, farms, ponds, forest, and the Deschutes River while preserving a visible link to the area’s logging and railroad past.
