Owen Francis Patrick Hammerberg, born May 31, 1920, in Daggett, Michigan, was a United States Navy World War II veteran who was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor posthumously for heroism in saving the lives of two fellow divers trapped during salvage operations in West Loch, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, on February 17, 1945. On March 2, 1955, a destroyer escort was commissioned as the USS Hammerberg (DE-1015) in his honor.
