Benjamin Tallmadge served as a colonel in the 2nd Regiment, Light Dragoons, of the Continental Army. As a spy for General Washington, he was instrumental in the capture of Major Andre, although he grieved at his hanging. He was born in the Setauket Parsonage on 25 February 1754.
