The Second Maine Regiment of Volunteers served from July 1861 to May 1863 and fought at Bull Run, Yorktown, Hanover Court House, Gaines' Mill, Malvern Hill, Manassas-2nd Bull Run, Antietam, Shepherdstown Ford, Fredericksburg, and Chancellorsville.
