Heathcote Botanical Gardens in Fort Pierce, Florida, is a five-acre subtropical garden that began as a commercial nursery founded in 1960 by landscape architect Molly Crimmons and her husband, Jim, and became a public garden in 1986 through local civic support. Its grounds include themed spaces such as a Japanese garden, Reflection Garden, Herb Garden, Rainforest Display, Native Plants Garden, Children’s Garden, and Palm and Cycad Walk, along with an interpretive replica of an 1870 Cracker-style home. Heathcote is especially notable for the James J. Smith Bonsai Gallery, a major public bonsai collection, and it also serves as an educational and community gathering place.
