Savannas Preserve State Park stretches along Florida’s Atlantic Coast between Fort Pierce and Jensen Beach and protects more than 7,000 acres centered on a predominantly savanna landscape. It preserves southeast Florida’s largest freshwater marsh, a rare remnant of a once broader coastal natural system, along with habitats such as pine flatwoods, basin marsh, wet prairie, scrubby flatwoods, and the Atlantic scrub ridge. The park supports threatened and rare wildlife and plants, including the Florida scrub jay, gopher tortoise, savannas mint, and nearly all remaining populations of the endangered fragrant prickly-apple cactus. It also serves the community through education, trails, fishing, and guided low-impact recreation.
