Munising Falls is a 50-foot waterfall in Munising at the western edge of Michigan’s Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Dropping over a sandstone cliff in an accessible setting, it can be viewed from several nearby trails. Its flow is usually modest except during the spring thaw, when runoff swells the cascade, and in winter it freezes into a striking column of ice. Although the falls are closed to climbers, ice climbing is popular nearby. The surrounding area also connects the site to the wider natural and cultural history of Pictured Rocks, including geology, forests, logging, recreation, early iron smelting, and rare and endangered species.
