Kenner Community Band was organized in 1944 by Henry "Teddy" Stewart and Rodney Jones and was under the direction of Maestro Wilson. In 1960, renowned drummer and singer Joseph Williams organized his band, Big Joe Williams & The Rhythm Play Boys. On October 2, 2003, the Kenner City Council passed a resolution recognizing the historical significance of the band. Original band members included Floyd Allen, Horace Allen, Joseph Allen, Thelma Green Allen, Ella Mae Anderson, Ocie Bell, Benjamin Bijole, Grant Dennison, Jr., Isaac Dukes, Ann Jones Harvey, Irma Stewart Harvey, Anna Price Hucthinson, Armand James, John James, Jack Johnson, Jr., Theodoria Dennison Johnson, Jean Price Jones, Steve Joseph Jr., Junior "Cheeky" Price, Donald Stewart, Henry Stewart III, Louis Stewart Jr., Willie Thomas, Eugene Ursin, John Upton, Joseph Williams, Herman Wilson, and Lois Tucker Williams.
