After Confederate Major General John Bell Hood’s right leg was amputated because of a wound received on September 20, 1863, at the Battle of Chickamauga, he was brought to William Little’s house to recuperate. Colonel Francis (Frank) Little of the 11th Georgia Infantry suggested taking Hood to the home of his father, William Little. Hood spent approximately four to six weeks there. A second story was added to the house in 1899.
