Mid-America Science Museum in Hot Springs, Arkansas, is a nonprofit science museum known for hands-on learning through more than 100 traveling and permanent exhibits. Completed in 1982, its building and many original exhibits reflect the early 1980s. Notable attractions include kinetic sculptures by Rowland Emett, including The Featherstone-Kite Openwork Basketweave Mark Two Gentleman's Flying Machine and pieces seen in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, as well as a conical Tesla coil producing 1.5 million volts. A major renovation in the 2010s, supported by foundation grants and gifts, led to its 2015 reopening with 75 new exhibits, updated original displays, new visitor spaces, a digital dome theater, and the outdoor Bob Wheeler Science Sky-walk.
