One of the oldest buildings in Whitefish opened as the Spraque Saloon in 1905 and, through a succession of owners, served local residents for more than 110 years. In 1911 it was known as the Spraque-Danhisser Saloon, run by Fred Spraque and Henry Dashisser, but after Henry opened his own billiard parlor across the street the building returned to the name Spraque Saloon. In the early 1930s William N. Parent established a billiard hall there, reflecting billiards' popularity in Whitefish at the time. By 1934, after Prohibition ended, it had become a pub again under the name Darnall and Schafer Saloon. A long family ownership began in 1940 when Bill Murr bought it and renamed it the Club Bar, a name it kept for the next 27 years. Pat Casey, Murr's stepson, took over in 1967 and renamed it Casey's, running it for 36 years as a working folks' watering place that also served food from a small kitchen. Richard Kramer bought the longtime town landmark in 2003 and kept the Casey's name. Michael Goguen purchased it in January 2011, and because the original structure could not be repaired to meet modern building codes, construction of a new Casey's began in August 2011. It reopened in time for Labor Day weekend 2012 as a much more modern building, still on the same corner and still bearing the name Casey's Bar.
