Joseph J. "Joe" Herrmann was the son of Lucius Herrmann, a baker who emigrated from Germany in 1900 and married Helen Veronica McSweeney in Ohio in 1911; the family settled in San Antonio, Florida, in 1925. In 1935, Joe Herrmann married Rose, daughter of town blacksmith Max Ullrich, and they raised Eddie and his eight siblings in the Jovita Building, built by the Herrmann family. Joe organized the Jovita Radio Store, founded and operated Joe Herrmann's Saf-T-Gas, Inc. for 49 years, and developed Rosewood Subdivision. He was a co-founder of the San Antonio Citizens Federal Credit Union, Pasco County Fair Association, and Pioneer Florida Museum, a leading ambassador for the Dade City Chamber of Commerce, a recipient of the St. Jude Award from the St. Petersburg Diocese for service to St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, a City of San Antonio mayor and council member, and a county commissioner appointed by Governor Leroy Collins. He also co-chaired the Pasco County Centennial Celebration in 1987, and the Joseph J. and Rose A. Herrmann Charitable Foundation continues the family legacy. Edward J. "Eddie" Herrmann co-founded the San Antonio Rattlesnake Festival with Willy Post and the Jaycees, graduated from St. Leo College Preparatory School at age 16, and became known as "the Culligan Man." He married Mary Patricia "Patsy" Miller in 1955. As a historian, he co-authored The Historic Places of Pasco County, preserved documents, served as president and program chair of the Pasco County Historical Society, helped place historical markers in Pasco for more than 30 years with the Historical Preservation Advisory Committee, and served as a trustee of Pioneer Florida Museum. His humanitarian and community work included the Knights of Columbus, St. Vincent de Paul Society, St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, service as mayor of San Antonio, and membership in the volunteer Fire Department; he also received the Benedictine Spirit Award and Paul Harris Fellow and was an award-winning winemaker.
