Loys Station Covered Bridge near Thurmont, Maryland, spans Owen’s Creek and is a traditional multiple king post wooden covered bridge named for a nearby Western Maryland Railroad station. Built in 1848, it originally had a single 90-foot span before steel beams and a concrete midspan pier were added between 1929 and 1930, creating its present form. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978, it was destroyed by arson in 1991 during an insurance fraud attempt, then rebuilt over three years for $300,000 using surviving framing where possible. Reopened on 4 July 1994, it remains a historic local landmark.
