Desert Lighthouse is a full-size working lighthouse in the Mojave Desert near Hinkley, California, created by artist Daniel Hawkins and unveiled in 2017 after years of planning, setbacks, and the loss of an earlier version in Lucerne Valley to vandals and scavengers. Conceived as both desert art and a local landmark, it places a maritime form deep inland and has been interpreted as a contemporary Land Art work marked by ambition, fragility, and persistence. It also became a memorial site, where visitors began leaving handmade tributes in 2018 and 2019, including remembrances for Bruce Mace and Alicia Maria Hilton.
