This tribute honors the men, women, and their families who endured for freedom, for God and country, including veterans of Afghanistan and Iraqi Freedom, American Legion Posts 13 and 41, and World War II veterans in Franklin, Maryland. It also records that on January 13, 1964, a Strategic Air Command B-52 carrying nuclear bombs crashed in Garrett County, and the crew were Major Thomas W. McCormick, Captain Parker C. Peedin, Major Robert L. Payne, Major Robert E. Townley, and Technical Sergeant Melvin Wooten.
