Loomis Observatory in Hudson, Ohio, on the campus of Western Reserve Academy, was completed in 1838 and is among the earliest astronomical observatories in the United States. It is recognized as the oldest American observatory still standing on its original site. Developed under Professor Elias Loomis, with a building designed by architect Simeon Porter, it retains notable original instruments from 1837, including a Troughton and Simms equatorial telescope and an astronomical clock by Robert Molyneux. Originally associated with Western Reserve College, which later became Case Western Reserve University, the observatory remained in Hudson and survived through restorations in 1908 and 1963.
