Moorefield, West Virginia
Military
Moorefield was chartered in 1777 and named for Conrad Moore, an early settler. During the Indian wars, Town Fort to the north and Fort Buttermilk to the south provided protection. In 1794, Gen. Biggs brought here part of the troops recruited to suppress the Whisky Rebellion.
