Fort Pleasant stood on lands of Issac Van Meter, who took up a claim near Old Fields in 1735 and settled there in 1744. It was part of the chain of forts established by Washington, and for a time it was garrisoned by British regulars. The Battle of the Trough took place near it in 1756.
