The memorial honors the founders and patriots of the country who served and gave their lives with unselfish bravery and devotion in destroying tyranny and oppression and thereby establishing and defending liberty and justice for all mankind. It also is dedicated to Bob Hope and the men and women in uniform he entertained from World War II to Desert Storm. Bob Hope, 1903 - 2003, is remembered as a patriot, humanitarian, entertainer, and the first Honorary Veteran of the United States by act of Congress. It was dedicated on Veteran's Day, November 11, 2003, and bears the words, "To those who died, honor and eternal rest; to those still in bondage, remembrance and hope; to those who returned, gratitude and peace," along with a dedication on Veteran's Day November 11, 1988.
