Built in 1748 by Moravians as a house for single men, Brethren's House became an early center of industry with a bell foundry, silkworm culture, and other crafts and trades. During the Revolution it served as a military hospital. From 1815 it housed a girls' school, and it is now part of Moravian College and a museum.
