The Hardison family settled in this part of Maury County around 1805 and built Hardison's Mill in 1820. They established a store and post office in 1844. After a flood in 1870, Calvin and Sarah Hardison rebuilt the existing farmhouse and the family mill, which remained in operation until 1950. In the late 1800s, their youngest daughters, Mollie and Veva Hardison, were songwriters and teachers at the Hardison Mill School.
