Long rows of rocks across the valley are tailings—topsoil, riverbed rock, and bedrock left behind by forty years of dredging. The dredges' systematic destruction erased the original meadow and bottomlands habitat, but natural forces are beginning to reclaim the tailings and their surroundings as habitat.
