Kewaunee Pierhead Light
Transportation
Kewaunee Pierhead Light marks the harbor entrance near Kewaunee on Wisconsin’s Lake Michigan shore and has evolved with changing navigation technology since a first light was placed on the north pier in 1889. After the south pier was built in 1912, the station was established with an open-frame tower connected to a fog signal building, then reshaped in 1931 into its present form with a tower rising from that building. Its fog signal gained lasting fame when a 1972 recording of the horn was inducted into the National Recording Registry in 2005. Still an active aid to navigation, the lighthouse is also being restored, toured occasionally, and preserved as a historic Great Lakes landmark.
