This site, donated to Custer County by Jess Gandy in A.D. 1882, became the location of the first Custer County courthouse. The courthouse was erected and donated to Custer County in 1889 by the citizens and precinct of Broken Bow, with a building committee of S.H. Yoder, W.H. Coon, T.J. Woods, J.B. Lump, W. Hewett, and I.H. Barcus; F.S. Allen as architect; B.B. Colman as contractor; and B.M. Bond as mason. The building was destroyed by fire on Jan. 14, 1910.
