The Orr-Herl Mound and Village Site in Hardin County, Illinois, is an archaeological site on the Ohio River that preserves a mound, a sizable midden, and village remains. Mississippian peoples lived there from roughly 900 to 1500 AD. The site was an important source of fluorspar, which was used to make carvings and beads, and it was likely a place where those objects were manufactured for trade. Finds of fluorspar artifacts at the Kincaid Site, another major Mississippian center on the Ohio River in Illinois, support its role in regional exchange. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.
