Nature
Great Falls is a waterfall on the Housatonic River at Falls Village in the town of Canaan, in Connecticut’s Litchfield Hills. It is regarded as the state’s highest-volume waterfall and remains one of the defining natural features along this part of the river. Although much of the Housatonic’s potential flow is diverted just upstream for hydroelectric power generation during most of the year, often leaving the falls with less water than it would naturally carry, the site still holds a prominent place in the landscape.
