Beckley Furnace in North Canaan, Connecticut preserves a 19th-century iron-making site centered on a blast furnace built in 1847 by John Adam Beckley to produce pig iron. The surviving furnace was the second of three that operated there, while a fourth begun in the early 20th century was never completed for service. The works ran until 1919, adapting to changing industrial conditions before closing when they could no longer compete on a larger scale in the early 1920s. Its stone stack, dam, turbine chamber, additional furnace remains, and slag heaps still make the former industrial landscape clearly visible.
