Sue is the largest, most complete, and best preserved T-Rex found to date, with ninety percent of the original bones recovered and only a foot, an arm, and a few ribs and vertebrae missing. Sue was found near Faith on August 12, 1990 by Sue Hendrickson. The dinosaur is 42 feet long and 13 feet high at the hips, with 58 teeth ranging from 7 1/2 inches to 12 inches long. Sue was purchased by the Field Museum in Chicago, Illinois, on October 4, 1997 for $8.4 million. The Field Museum has two replicas of the T-Rex that travel for display in museums across the states and abroad, and Faith hosted this exhibit from May 10 through September 1, 2008. Local artist and sculptor John Lopez created a scrap iron sculpture to honor Sue's impact on the Faith area and surrounding communities. Lopez also created 10 life-sized presidential bronzes placed in downtown Rapid City, South Dakota, and he and his family were long associated with the annually held Lopez-Hunt-Meyer Quarter Horse sale in Faith.
