La Plaisance Bay Pike
Transportation
2
In 1832 the Federal Government appropriated funds to survey and build a road beginning at La Plaisance Bay near Monroe, passing through Tecumseh, and joining the Chicago Road at Cambridge Junction. The road was completed in 1835, and a few years later several boggy sections were covered by oak planks. During the early statehood years, thousands of settlers bound for western Michigan used this route.
