THE STORY

Matthew Smith was a captain of Lancaster County militia with Col. Benedict Arnold on the 1775 midwinter march to Quebec. In 1779, he served as Vice-President of the Pennsylvania Council. He died in 1794 and was buried here in an unmarked grave.
