Coeur d'Alene River Wildlife Management Area is a 5,799-acre protected area in northern Idaho, mostly in Kootenai County with smaller sections in Benewah County. Centered largely in the Thompson Lake segment along the Coeur d'Alene River, it also extends along the St. Joe River near the upper reaches of Lake Coeur d'Alene by Heyburn State Park. Land acquisition began in 1964 to create and improve habitat for waterfowl, and the area is managed for both migratory and resident birds. It also supports wildlife such as ruffed grouse, American coots, and snowshoe hare, and remains an important habitat corridor connected to the Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes.
